I bought a 1997 Savage about 2-1/2 years ago with 2800 miles on it. I have put about 12,000 miles on it since then and have found that it does use a small amount of oil, a little less than 1 ounce every 100 miles. The bike runs good, so it doesn't bother me. I just make sure to check the oil level before every ride.
